I am thrilled to report that there is an exhibit celebrating children’s book illustration right here in Carlsbad. I am equally thrilled to say that 5 of my pieces are in said show!
There was a private reception for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and the Society of Illustrators San Diego on September 27 (see photos). There was also a talk by Joy Chu and Salina Yoon that was fascinating.
The illustrations are very diverse and it was nice to be able to get a close look at each one. They also have the books that the illustrations came from so you can take a look at additional illustrations in each book. There also is a streaming video of trailers, put together by Joy Chu, that often shows the illustrator.
There’s still time to take it all in. The show is up until November 23. Don’t miss it!
Here’s the blurb from the Cannon Gallery website:
The Original Art: Celebrating the Fine Art of Children’s Book Illustration
This traveling exhibition celebrates its 33rd year as a showcase for children’s book illustrators whose original artwork is seldom seen outside the studio or publisher’s office. This extraordinary exhibition consists of more than 40 colorful works of art selected from the 2013 Juried Original Art Exhibition at the Museum of American Illustration at Society of Illustrators in New York City. Also featured are works by noted Southern California illustrators, including Janell Cannon, Andrea Zimmerman and David Clemensha, Salina Yoon, Lori Mitchell, Jennifer Hewitson, Tracy Sabin and others.
