The Yellow Book Road Exhibit

The Yellow Book Road had the first ever illustration show this October with members of the SISD and SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writer’s and Illustrators)  The illustrators that had published books had their originals by the books so the kids (and adults) could compare the original to the printed piece.

Yellow Book Road is in Liberty Station which is the new hot spot for art in San Diego. On the first Friday of the month they open up all the galleries and have wine and cheese. There are so many galleries and always new shows to see each month. After you see the art you can wander around and find an assortment of good places to eat dinner.

For the show Salina Yoon had her new book for Halloween called Where’s Boo? She had an an interactive demo on how to make her main character, Penguin, out of Playdough and was busy signing books and making penguins for most of the event. Her two boys and her husband were also on hand to help. She sold both of her prints!

I had coloring book pages from the original drawings from Different Just Like Me and kids could color them any way they liked.

Helen Shafer Garcia did a demo of her brilliant watercolor style and attracted many curious visitors with lots of questions about painting and drawing.

The other illustrators that had work in the show were:

Denise Hilton Campbell, Susie Ghahremani, Ken Joudrey, and Tracy Sabin.

It was a very nice show and made me proud to be a San Diego illustrator.
